Description
Fiesta de Frida in Honor of Frida's 110th Birthday
Event Details
In conjunction with July's First Fridays programming, on July 7, the Heard Museum is excited to celebrate the 110th birthday of Frida Kahlo with the Phoenix Fridas, an award-winning Phoenix-based Latina artists collective, who will show and sell their art throughout the evening. Heard visitors will remember the Phoenix Fridas from last year’s Fiesta de Frida birthday party, as well as their collaboration with the museum to realize the exhibition "Las Favoritas de Frida" in 2015.
General admission to the museum is free, but "Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera" is a specially ticketed exhibition and is still subject to a $7 charge per person. No ticket sales or first-time entry to the museum after 9:30 p.m.
Evening Events
-Enjoy the music of Rose Wax Vinyl Club, spinning our favorite artists tunes
-Create a flower crown to wear while partying with las Fridas
-Sample a popular Mexican street snack at the Watermelon y Tajin tasting station
-Participate in "La Marcha de las Fridas!" At 8 pm we’ll have Frida and Diego lead the marcha of everyone who is dressed up as Frida, just like a Mexican wedding! Immediately afterward we will sing "Happy Birthday" to Frida and celebrate with birthday cake
-Listen to the musical talents of Dania Zarate and a poetry presentation by Divin Valentin about the spirit of Frida Kahlo
Be sure to get here early so you can enter to win goodie bags from the Phoenix Fridas that will be raffled off throughout the night. Bags which include exclusive hand-painted Frida Kahlo portrait cookies by Alicia's Delicias! Special food and drinks will be available for purchase at the Museum’s Courtyard Café.
