Action abounds in Central City Arizona an urban village of the city of Phoenix. At the heart of the Valley of the Sun the Central City district is located just east of downtown and contains a variety of historic buildings including homes and government buildings. Central City offers residents and visitors easy access to other areas of Phoenix through Valley Metro light rail lines. Walking is a major form of transportation in Central City. Young professionals inhabit townhomes and apartments with a variety of shops and restaurants nearby. Sports venues located in Central City include Chase Field home of Major League baseball team the Arizona Diamondbacks and the US Airways Center home of the National Basketball Association's Phoenix Suns and the Women's National Basketball Association's Phoenix Mercury. In addition to sporting events the Arizona Science Center, Japanese Friendship Garden, and the Phoenix Zoo are located within Central City. A new addition, Downtown Civic Space Park offers a respite from the city with extensive shade, an underground water collection system and solar power generating structures. Interactive water and light features of the park attract kids while space for gatherings and picnics serve people of all ages. The desert climate is mild in the winter and while hot in the summer cools to pleasant temperatures for evening and early morning outdoor recreation.
